Hi Alphas,
Welcome to Alphaday 8. Perhaps the pleasant distraction of an Alphaday packed full of the goodies we writers appreciate and need, will cheer us up like a ray of sunshine in this bleak month of February. I know some of you are lucky enough not to suffer from the dull weight of this wet and grey winter, and I’m determined to consider that a comforting thought. Better still, however, is the anticipation of a day spent with Alphas enjoying a wealth of writerly treats.
Today’s menu has plenty to offer and it’s all being served up for us by those diligent Alpha hands that behind the scenes have prepared the following items for our enjoyment and enlightenment:
- This bulletin from me
- The results of the TV advert challenge from Rosemary
- The collated entries of the Music review from Chris
- The brief for Ch.8, our poetry challenge, from Christine
- The Alpha Log from Sally
- The Writers’ Reads column from Morgen
- Fingers crossed… perhaps a Showcase piece from Suzanne
Thank you to all those who organised and contributed to some or all of the above items on today’s agenda. Without your efforts Alphadays wouldn’t happen. As usual we look forward to your comments (wry or dry!) on events as they unfold in the course of the day.
You’ve been very quiet since last Alphaday. It may be difficult to come up with something interesting to say while hibernating, so let’s blame the long month of February again which this year is even longer than usual.
The Scrivener system was recommended by three of you who, I’d guess, use it in very different ways. That alone is a point in its favour. If it can be adapted to function in three different situations in our group, then there must be something useful about it.
I thought it might have helped me while I struggled to remember every detail of lay-out, subject matter and style for the Alpha Decade Book. I do have a neat and tidy file with everything under the proper headings. But I still find it cumbersome to check one detail in all the previous chapters to make sure it all matches and adds up.
General news from across the Channel seems to concentrate on whether or not to impose a Monroe-type doctrine on England (while leaving the other British nations more or less out of it) by making the word ‘foreign’ look either attractive or frightening.
I’m glad the Alpha Group is cosmopolitan and proud of it.
Christine
