We continue our Alpha routine, which isn\u2019t really a\nroutine because there\u2019s no sameness about it \u2013 quite the contrary. Every\nAlphaday is different with a fresh input from all our members that brings us\nnew insights into what it is to be a writer and to write in as many varied\nguises as we can fish out of our wonderful imaginations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\nis no exception. The agenda may look familiar, but what\u2019s behind those headings\nis full of surprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s\nagenda is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This\n     bulletin from me<\/li><li>The\n     results of the epistolary challenge from Morgen<\/li><li>The\n     collated entries for the Open Page 2<sup>nd<\/sup> edition from Ros<\/li><li>The\n     brief for Challenge 6 from Sally<\/li><li>Alpha\n     Log 4 from Sally<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Many\nthanks to all the contributors and I\u2019m certainly looking forward to seeing\nthose treats popping into my inbox in the course of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General\nnews:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps\nyou remember that I once picked on the overuse of the word \u2018icon\u2019. It seemed to\nme that it was applied indiscriminately to many things that weren\u2019t images of\nsaintliness and worthy of worship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have\nyou seen a single article on the subject of Karl Lagerfeld\u2019s death that didn\u2019t\nuse the words \u2018icon\u2019 or \u2018iconic\u2019 \u2013 often several times? He may not have been\nadorned by a gold leaf halo, but there seems to be a silver leaf one floating\nround his venerable head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nwas certainly a remarkable man with a very individual style and appearance. He\nonce said his looks were a caricature of his person. He was admirably superior\n\u2013 even arrogant and opinionated, but with the courage to stand out in full\nglory. Some writers even called him an iconoclast \u2013 which undoubtedly he was in\nmany ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An\niconoclastic icon.
