I\u2019ve said it before and I\u2019ll repeat it because I believe\nour group\u2019s true worth lies in this: we don\u2019t teach \u2013 we learn. There\u2019s so much\nto take in from such a varied group of writers where everyone joins in with\ntheir different voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s\nagenda is as busy as ever. I hope you\u2019ll benefit from the wealth of fresh input\nwhich will give you plenty to mull over \u2013 as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This\n     bulletin from me<\/li><li>The\n     results and feedback for The Open Page 2<sup>nd<\/sup> edition from Ros<\/li><li>The\n     collated entries for the tourist article from Sally<\/li><li>The\n     brief for Challenge 7 from Zena<\/li><li>A Writers\u2019\n     Read prompt from Morgen<\/li><li>A\n     call for Log entries from Sally<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All\nthat will flutter into your inbox in the course of the day.&nbsp; Enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\nhave no special <strong>Alpha news<\/strong> for you.\nI\u2019ll go with the clich\u00e9 and optimistically venture that no news is good news.\nOptimism is good for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>General news<\/strong> is \u2013 well the same never-ending saga,\nnow turning into farce. Jean-Claude Juncker said: \u2018historically,\ngeographically, culturally and financially Great Britain belongs in Europe.\nQuite so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WM\nin their latest competition supplement proudly declared that they\u2019d vastly\nincreased the number of competitions to enter by including international ones \u2013\nthat being a euphemism for US competitions \u2026 with high entry fees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\nhave to confess that \u2013 culturally \u2013 I feel that my writing is too deeply\nsteeped in my European heritage to be suitable for the US competitions. They\nhave their ways, I have mine, and it\u2019s not only the spelling and vocabulary.\nSome of their criteria are beyond my understanding. What is \u2018middle grade\nfiction genre\u2019? is there a lower and upper genre? How does one interpret\n\u2018sensitivity to place and desert literacy\u2019? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nare some Australian and Canadian comps as well \u2013 often restricted to local\nwriters. The prize in one Canadian competition is a house in Alberta.
