We may be winding down and working our way towards\nour well-deserved annual break in Alpha activities, but the operative word here\nis still \u2018working\u2019 and we have quite a few tasks lined up for you which I expect\nwill appeal to your writerly instincts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today\u2019s\nagenda is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This\nbulletin from me<\/li><li>The\nresults of the Location challenge from Phil<\/li><li>The\ncollated entries for the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> edition of the Open Page from Christine<\/li><li>The\nLog from Sally<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That\nis an agenda full of writerly treats, I\u2019m sure you\u2019ll agree. It will keep you\nhappily occupied for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General\nnews:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Occasionally\nyou get a shiny spark flying off the most boring and mismanaged long-term\npolitical situation \u2013 like Brexit. I have always been fascinated by legendary\nand mythological creatures and the unicorn is particularly attractive because\nof its beauty and the virtues of its horn which can cure diseases and make\npoisoned waters drinkable. Also it\u2019s so wild that nobody can approach it \u2013\nexcept for a pure and unselfish lady whose virtues make the unicorn so tame\nthat it lays its head in her lap and sleeps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is\nthere such a pure and unselfish lady in the British government who can deliver\na (non-existent) unicorn to cure all ills? I looked at some of the cartoons and\nother snippets on the subject and \u2018wow!\u2019 there certainly were bright sparks\nflying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\nyou need in order to deliver a unicorn, in my view, is somebody with the right\nsource material, the research skills required, a splendid imagination and a way\nwith words. A writer can do it. Tracy Chevalier delivered a wonderful unicorn\nin her novel, <em>The Lady and the Unicorn, <\/em>based\non a 15<sup>th<\/sup> century French tapestry which comes alive in her\ninterpretation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s\nhow you deliver a real unicorn; one that will enrich the minds of people who\u2019re\ndeprived and poor because of the dreadful political stories they\u2019re being fed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\nyes, I do have a unicorn in one of my stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Christine<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi Alphas, Welcome to Alphaday 12, Season XV.
